PhysicoMechanical and Physico-Chemical Properties of Bio-Inert Composite Ceramics
Bio-inert ceramics are non-toxic, non-allergenic and non-carcinogenic materials which explain why these are frequently used as orthopedic and dental implants. Unfortunately, these are chemically inert and do not naturally form a direct link with the bone. The research carried studies micro/nanostructure properties and the porosity of the TiO2-Nb2O5 ceramics, used as biocompatible polymer matrix, prepared by different technological regimes. The morphology of the composite samples of TiO2-Nb2O5 was studied using scanning microscopy. The phase identification of the composites was carried by metallographic microscopy. Results obtained show the chemical composition, the technological parameters and the porosity determined, favors formation of sufficiently strong bond between the studied materials and vitreous carbon layers
A Possibility to Decrease the Sintering Temperature of Corundum Ceramics
The ceramics consisting of more than 95% Al2O3 is called corundum ceramics. The name comes from the name of the α-crystalline form of the aluminum oxide-corundum.
The basic technological process influencing the properties of this ceramic is the temperature and the duration of the sintering process. Sintering aids are used to improve sintering and to control grain size.
The possibility to use CaTiO3 as sintering aid is investigated. This substance lowers the sintering temperature with more than 100 oC and at the same time the mechanical properties are preserved. The compressive strength is more than 2000 MPa and the flexural strength is more than 200 MPa
Cardiotoxicity during and after oncological treatment − role of cardio-magnetic resonance
The purpose of this review article is to inform practicing cardiologists about the manifestations of cardiotoxicity in patients on or after antitumor therapy and about the potential of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) in the diagnosis and follow-up of these patients. The definitions and classification of cardiotoxicity associated with antitumor treatment, the mechanisms of cardiac and vascular damage of some of the important groups of antitumor drugs, and the potential CMR findings are reviewed. The main clinical situations related to manifestations of cardiotoxicity in which CMR has or is expected to have a leading role are outlined
Mechanical properties of composite coatings of chromium and nanodiamonds on aluminum
Aluminum offers engineers weight saving advantages in their product design. However, aluminum has poor wear and friction properties. In addition, the surface oxide layer of this chemically active metal, which gives it the corrosion resistance, makes it a very difficult metal to plate [1]. Specific pre-treatment must be applied to remove the oxide layer from the aluminum surface. The nanodiamond particles additionally facilitates the process of chromium deposition. The object of this study is to evaluate the impact of nanodiamonds on the mechanical properties of the chromium coating plated o

Digitale Edition der Korrespondenz August Wilhelm Schlegels – Ergebnisse, Erfahrungen, Entwicklungen
After ten years of running (2012–2021) the digital edition of August Wilhelm
Schlegel’s correspondence, the project team would like to present the initial
situation and the goals, the results and experiences of the joint work as well
as share the methodological findings and put them up for discussion. The work
packages as well as the workflow will be explained in detail and the working
methods will be reflected. The three project partners are presented in equal
